New fur frens
After a long break from Dwarf hammies....
Introducing our latest addition to the family.
2 female winter white hammies.
1 is pearl colour & another is normal colour.
They are chubby & love to eat. (typical)
I adopted them from the usual pet forum I frequent. I actually wanted to buy 2 campbell from a pet shop but why buy when there are those that needs to be re-homed.
I was initially a little concern as they were not livin in the same cage prior to being adopted and are not familiar to me as a new owner.
The 1st night was rather tiring as I have to let them slowly get use to the smell of my hand and slowly they climbed onto it. Yes, I got a few bites but I did the earthquake method (shake hand mimic tiny earthquake) and after a while they learnt not to bite (not 100% trained, need reminders).
Next was the tricky part of introduction and intergration into a common livin environment. I put them into Chi Chi's powder bath house and coated the hammies with scented powder. I also coated the new cage with the same powder. In they went and no food or beddin given at this stage. At the 1st meetin, they were too concern with preenin themself to bother fighting. Once they were done, they started explorin the cage. They sniffed each other and continued explorin w/o fighting (good sign). Next, the beddin went in and they started to dig about and chewed on it a little. After that the food went in. Pearl white was the 1st to the scene & dug for its fav food while normal white was snoozin in a corner. After eatin, I left them alone for a while & took a bath. They were sleepin by the time I returned.
Brought the cage to my room & placed it beside me while I sleep (have to seperate them if they fight at night). Once I turned off the light, I heard squeakin. On the light & both looked at me, turned & face each other then went back to sleep. Off the light again. No more squeakin. Peace.
They did squeaked a few more times while I was sleepin but only for a sec or two so I wasn't bothered. They were active throughout the night so I had very light sleep. (I'm ok but need a cup of tea b4 work.)
Will take some photos tonight if possible.
